It is believed that the first impression we become of a person substantialy impacts our opinion about him. The first impression is crucial for positive relationships, however, I firmly contend that it should not be overestimated.
First of all, the human’s behaviour and attitude by the first meeting might actually influence the potential decisions of opponents in great extent. The confidence, intelligence, and politeness force other people to rely on such a person, as these features usually correlate with responsibility. Although, a human’s personality is significantly deeper and more complex to be judged only by the first impression. As a consequences, a real person will be substituted with the illusions about him, leading to the misunderstanding.
In addition to this, people usually behave themselves extremely differently depending on the society they are surrounded by the moment. People tend to be more more open-minded with their friends or family, while by the first meeting, they do not show the actual nature of their character. Only over the long period, actions of a person might highlight his benefits and drawbacks. Until this moment, without knowledge about one’s experience, plans and point of view, we are not able to make any decisions about other people. For example, during the long-lasting personal relationships, different situations reveal highlight the previous covered weaknesses or unremarked strenghts, altering our opinion about the person.
In conclusion, despite the fact that the first impression contributes significantly to attitude to other person, we shoulnd’t base our opinion only on merely this experience, as it might undermine some human’s strenghts.
