With transformations in social forms and shifts in interpersonal relationships, it has become increasingly common to measure one’s for personal traits relying on the first impression. While some people argue that this is the most effective way to judge someone, I tend to think that it largely represents a negative development.
To begin with, one of the maimin reasons why this practice may bring negative repercussions in that nothing can be judged correctly at the first glance. There is a widespread saying “Do not judge the book by its cover”. Based on this idea, it is important to recognize that first impression can be decieving. People often try to behave differently when meeting someone for the first time. As a result, relying on the initial encounter may not provide an accurate reflection of person’s true character.
In addition to this, individuals possess a wide range of qualities and personal traits that can not be understood in a brief interaction. This is because, in my opinion it takes time to have more precise assumption about the unfamiliar person. It is necessary to collect data from those who have an accurate viewpoints of a person or spending more time with that person during the process in order to have a true judgement over someone.
To sum up, even though first impression can provide some insights about the person, considering main factors discussed above, it is crucial not to consider this practice as a sole basis for judging someone, instead individuals can obtain more precise information over time.
