It has been reported that the government should help parents who have young children financially, so either one of them could focus taking care of them. In my opinion, this policy has its own advantages and disadvantages to both parents and children. The good part is the babies could receive much proper parental guidance, however if such support is misused, it could harm both parties.
By government’s initiative to provide money to the guardians, the children could gain enough parental attention and care, thus may contributing babies’ growth and development. This is very important to the babies’ mental growth since one of the main factors of failure in parenting is due to the negligence of parents during children’s early growth. Furthermore, extra payments from the authorities will lessen the economic burden of the family since cost of baby supplies such as diapers and milk are significantly expensive.
However, some unresponsible parents may misuse such opportunity such as utilizing fund for one’s own benefits instead of using for the children’s need. Without proper management of the fund from the related administration, given money would be wasteful if many parents take from granted. Plus, this policy may unintentionally reinforce traditional gender roles in society, where women are seen as caregivers, while men’s gender roles are breadwinner. Lack of understanding about the difficulties of taking care of children may worsen physical and mental of one of the parents.
To sum up, government paying will reduce the monetary hardship for household with young children, but it may also lead to certain irresponsible behavior from the parents or instable mental state. Proper policy’s guide from the authorities as well as cooperation from the parents itself are essential for effective implementation.
