In the contemporary world, there is an opinion that the authorities should allocate funding to developing sports and art in educational institutions instead of professional sports and art exhibitions in communities. While this viewpoint is justifiable to some extent, I believe that it is imprudent to downplay the dividends of investments in sponsoring professional sports and art events.
It is understandable why some endorse financing and subsidizing to promote sport and art in school, as this allows young talents in athletic and artistic fields to be discovered soon. As a result, they can be nurtured and fully developed at a young age, which allows them to achieve their full potential. Moreover, with financial support from the governments, those who are endowed with an aptitude for sports and art can be more easily accessible to state-of-the-art facilities and high-level coaches. Consequently, they will get higher chances of getting success in the competitions they would participate in.
However, I contend that investments in professional sports and art exhibitions are not at all wasteful. This is predicated on the assumption that the economic contribution of arts and sports is colossal and growing. International soccer competitions such as the World Cup, Euro, and Bundesliga or songs, movies, and, in a handful of countries, art exhibitions generate enormous sums that amount to billions of dollars. At the same time, they create demand for derivative products like fan merchandise or selling clothes that are printed with players’ names- businesses that are proven to be no less profitable than the sale of the intellectual property inspiring them. For example, Vietnam used to spend millions of dollars holding the World Cup and an international celebration that displayed Van Gogh’s pictures in 2012. After these events had ended, it was reported that this nation had received approximately one billion dollars due to tourist and ticket sales. This is a testament to how diverting money to sports and arts would reap financial benefits for a country, elucidating why the governments should allot resources to them.
In conclusion, it is irrefutable that the bulk of the budget state should go to promoting arts and sports at school, but I believe art exhibitions and professional sports games also deserve the government’s attention and resources.
