The line chart illustrates the percentage of Australian exports to 4 nations between 1990 and 2012.
Despite being a marginal export partner initially, the percentage of exports to China surged to become a major export destination, only slightly below the percentage of all other exports combined. Meanwhile, exports to Japan and the US have been in a steady decline over the years, paling in comparison to the proportion of exports to China.
From 2000 to 2010, the rapid increase in exports to China is prevalent, rising fivefold from the year 2000. The rise is also notable for India from 2000 to 2010 as well, albeit at a smaller scale, approaching 8% by the end of 2010.
A fall in export percentages to Japan and the US can be seen from the years 1990 to 1995, both were major export partners of Australia from this dataset. However, in the last 2 years of the data, the decline stabilized at around 18% and 7% respectively.
