The increasing population of overweight individuals is creating a heavy burden on health services. Some people believe that the simplest way to deal with this issue is to add more physical education lessons to the school curriculum. In my opinion, I partly agree with this view.
Firstly, I believe that introducing more physical education lessons in the school schedule can help reduce the number of people who are overweight. This is because regular physical activity makes students more active and healthier than those who do not exercise as much. By being physically active, young people can avoid future health problems and maintain better long-term health. In addition, a person who does sport regularly develops many positive and healthy habits. However, it is important to note that the main purpose of school is academic education, not physical activities.
However, physical education alone cannot solve the problem of obesity. Unhealthy eating habits are one of the main reasons why many people become overweight. According to recent statistics, the number of individuals who have faced weight-related problems has risen because of consuming junk food, drinking sugary drinks and eating sweets with large amounts of sugar. As a result, this creates an even heavier burden on health services. Therefore, schools should also teach nutrition and healthy eating skills in order to tackle this issue effectively.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that physical education can help deal with overweight problems, but it should be combined with promoting healthy eating. Overall, a balanced approach is more effective than relying on one solution.
