Nowadays oil and gas is a main energy sources for human civilization, however exploration process cause to damage natural environment is the main negative outcome, whereas many individuals accept to discover new oil fossil fuel in natural place cause to low initial cost is the main positive outcome; this will be discussed in detail before establishing a concrete conclusion.
On the one hand, fossil fuel exploration process is risky and cause to significant damage to natural environment around area. For example Deep Water Horizon station end with huge environmental disaster in the Mexican bay. However still oil and gas is most reliable energy source, therefore authority take the risk with full effort to minimize the environmental damage.
On the other hand use the petroleum is low initial cost is the main advantage comparing with other renewable energy sources such as solar and wind energy. Moreover most renewable energy sources can not rely on through the year. For instance solar energy, high initial cost and only able use in summer period and close to the equator. According to above example exploring new place to extract oil and gas is more pragmatic and economical.
