These days, individuals are surrounded by many forms of advertising, which has a significant influence on their daily lives. While this phenomenon has certain benefits, such as stimulating economic growth, I believe that its negative effects outweigh the positives, particularly due to the spread of misleading information and the manipulation of children’s psychology.
On the one hand, advertising can be really beneficial for businesses. Especially, in today’s contemporary society, it helps to make people aware of the products that are available. It is particularly beneficial for online and new business companies. They can introduce their services to customers through social media, such as Instagram, YouTube, and Telegram. Apart from making products well-known and fostering economic growth, it creates employment opportunities for people.
Notwithstanding these advantages, there are much more significant drawbacks to this trend. Nowadays, there are excessive amount of advertisements around people. Not all companies promote useful contents and commercial goods. Most of them use misleading and manipulative content in order to sell their goods. They overstate benefits while hiding potential disadvantages. As a result, it is hard to differ reliable over unreliable, since they have unrealistic expectation from the adds they have seen.
Moreover, advertising campaigns often targets children and teenagers psychologically. They use psychological techniques designed to influence emotions rather than rational judgment. Thus, it makes children and teenagers try to convince, to buy certain tools that are advertised. This trend leads to impulsive spending for their parents. Additionally, constant exposure to advertisements, particularly those promoting luxury goods or idealized lifestyles, can create pressure on individuals, especially among young generation, making them dissatisfied with their own lives.
In conclusion, although there may be some beneficial sides of advertising such as creating employment, and fostering economic growth. Yet, I remain convinced that it has negative consequences, manipulating people to buy more than needed and targeting children.
