Nowadays, social media tends to give too much attention to people who have gained good reputation while they make little time for ordinary citizens. Moreover, I think they should balance the attention of these two groups since they both deserve to be in the part of the social news.
One advantage of reporting celebrities is that it entertains the public and brings huge number of views for the media. Many people are interested in the lifestyle of famous persons like actors or footballers, and that creates a big audience. Also, celebrities often inspire young people with their success stories. For example, a singer who comes from poor background but reaches international fame can motivate many teens to follow their dreams.
On the other hand, there are several drawbacks. Firstly, it can make people feel unimportant or ignored. There are many amazing stories from normal people that never get shared. Secondly, too much focus on celebrity gossip might affect society’s values. Sometimes, media shows scandals or bad behaviour, which can be a bad influence for young people. Moreover, important news like science, education or local issues might get less attention because of this.
In conclusion, while it is true that reporting about celebrities has some benefits like inspiration and entertainment, it also brings negative effects like ignoring ordinary people or promoting wrong values. I believe media should try to show a fair balance and give space to the voice of everyone.
