The main objective of science must be to improve people’s lives. Although it is often argued that its development may come with various benefits that can lead to the population’s prosperity otherwise, the rest whose reject the idea accused it of a trigger that may harm life sustainability.
Those who advocate that science is necessary may argue that it can address human issues. For instance, to solve the matter of food and energy demand, which is rapidly escalating by the year due to the rapid growth of the human population. Scientists began the development of food genetic engineering to fulfill the food crisis around the world; moreover, in terms of energy, some professors successfully invented electric vehicles powered by lithium batteries as the source to overcome the energy crisis which it was predicted that fossil fuel would run out in one hundred years from now. As a result, starvation and energy emergencies were solved.
On the other hand, other people dispute that although technological inventions come with positive income, however, they also found those discoveries also bring a negative impact on humans in the future. In fact, the invention of food genetic manipulation and the discovery of lithium batteries in automobiles caused catastrophic effects on the human body and the environment. The persons who are frequently exposed to manipulated food are diagnosed with cancer and other serious health diseases. Furthermore, the battery’s raw materials cannot be decomposed either by chemical process or naturally, jeopardizing soil and groundwater sources. Consequently, people suffered deadly diseases caused by water contamination.
In conclusion, even though scientific development is essential for human existence, I agree that research should implement discretion to protect the environment and ensure human life at present and in the future.
