It is widely believed that the most vital factor of peoples’ life is their work and without successful career life has no meaning. I completely disagree with this statement, because it is important to keep work-life balance and life can lose its meaning if people pay attention only to work.
One key reason why I disagree with this view is that people should not forget about balance between work and their life. Worrying only about their career, they often become exhausted by workload, which leads to mental health issues such as memory loss. The great example would be my relative, who thought about only his work and nothing else, even his family. He was woking hard and working extended hours, burning the midnight oil for his career development. As a result, burnout happened and he lost his certain memories about his past life. This shows that people’s work and career are not the things people should care about.
Another significant factor is that the meaning and purpose of the life can be lost due to focusing only in work and career. Often humans forget about their dreams and goals in their personal lifes when they are concerned more about having satisfying career instead. For instance, the character from the korean movie called “Mr Kim and his ideal life”, who prioritize his work rather than his personal life. When he achieved the high position, he was fired and soon he realize that he had nothing except work, lost himself, and did not achieve any of his childhood dreams, which shows that his life has no meaning now.
In conclusion, the reasons for my disagreement for this tendency are that maintaining work-life balance is also important and, vice-versa, it leads to the meaningless life.
