Nowadays it is becoming common for many countries to implement general school uniform for schoolchildren. While some people argue that children must wear uniforms for several reasons, others say that students should have greater freedom to express their individuality. In this essay I discuss both sides and agree with former.
On the one hand, introducing general uniforms may leads to some problems. Firstly, clothing is an important way for young people to express their personalities. Limiting varieties of clothing may prevent some students to show their creativity. As a result students may feel angry and mad and they cannot fully concentrate on their lessons. Secondly purchasing special uniforms may put some families on pressure especially those who from poor background because they may not afford to special school uniforms. Lastly, for many students wearing uniforms may feel discomfort. Many young people do not wear special clothing on their daily life and in their home. Instead they mainly wear casual clothing on their daily occasions.
On the other hand, there are several important benefits of wearing school uniforms. Firstly, uniforms can create a sense of equality among students. When everyone wears similar clothes, there is less pressure to wear expensive or fashionable clothes, and students from different financial backgrounds may feel more comfortable. Secondly, school uniforms can help students to focus more on their education because they do not need to think about what clothes to wear every day. Moreover, uniforms can make students easily identifiable, which can improve safety and discipline inside and outside the school.
In my opinion, although allowing students to choose their own clothes can give them more freedom and help them express their personalities, I believe that school uniforms are more beneficial overall. They can reduce social pressure, improve discipline and create a stronger sense of equality among students.
In conclusion, while some people believe that children should be free to choose their clothes because of comfort and self-expression, others support school uniforms because they promote equality, discipline and concentration. I agree with the latter view because the advantages of uniforms are more significant
