The number of older people is increasing year by year, and in some countries, this number might be significant. In this essay, I will compare the advantages, such as quality of life, and disadvantages of the situation of losing working hands.
It is absolutely true that the increase in average lifespan indicates a good quality of life. This means that the level of healthcare and the environment we live in have significantly changed over the last few decades. Therefore, the advantage of the increasing number of older people is that they can now freely live their lives happily without worrying about their age, unlike long ago when people had shorter lifespans and had to worry even about minor illnesses.
However, this situation may have a negative impact on our lives. The main disadvantage is that as more people live longer, more of them retire, leading to a decrease in the available workforce. In many countries, people have a set retirement age, but there are not enough young professionals to replace those retiring. Some countries are trying to address this issue by increasing the retirement age for both males and females, but it has only resulted in protests from the people.
Nevertheless, the increasing number of older people signifies progress in our society. This shift will bring about many changes as the older generation desires to live better and differently. However, as people live to be 70, 80, or even 90 years old, they will require more specialized assistance and care.
