Opinions are divergent regarding whether tackling crime in prisons has significance or community service should have been focused on. The main agenda of the impending composition is to elaborate both sides before presenting my certitude as to why I defend custodial facility to be the sufficient place for offenders.
Advocates of probation assert that it functions as an alternative serving prisons. Community service can provide non-violent offenders with an opportunity to fulfill their legal obligations while remaining in the community. This also helps alleviate prison overcrowding and reduces the burden on the criminal justice system. However, probation poses potential risks on social security. Residents live in terror while aware criminals stay not far from them. They have an obsession of criminal’s illegal actions and fear of recurrence, leaving the family in danger, disrupting their daily routine.
Proponents of jail claim that it can do good wonders in terms of social stability. To be more specific, it is of paramount importance to victims’ protection. Offenders confined in prison eliminate the re-victimization, and eradicate the opportunity of contact with victims, which greatly benefits victims’ psychological recovery. Significantly, arresting offenders and confining them in the detention center feature beneficial effects on deterrence to the society. Citizens are disseminated about the pains in prisons, if they commit crime. As a result, they are subject to not violate the criminal law, since the consequences are unaffordable.
To sum up, it is my view that under no circumstance can we ignore the immense value of prison and community service. Confinement and probationary sentences are not mutually exclusive, for they enjoy respective merits. However, to my humble point of view. I believe that custodial facility is likely to bring blessings to the society.
