In today’s world, trendy clothes are in demand along the growing population. In my opinion, the problems related to increasing consumerism and financial instability make it an overall negative development, which will be discussed in subsequent paragraphs.
Firstly, individuals buying fashionable clothes can lead to consumerism. As demand is increasing industries are producing large quantity of clothes to fulfill the required needs, which is promoting use and throw culture along the consumers. Consequently, this can deplete natural resources and exacerbates pollution. For example, few countries are facing environmental and land fill problems with lot of unrecycable waste products releasing harmful particles, polluting the ecosystem.
Secondly, this approach can lead to financial instability. Rather than saving money or buying necessary commodities, people spend significant amount of money on trendy clothing to maintain social status and to feel validated from their friends or colleagues. As a result, they end up spending hefty amount, leading to unstable life with wrong choices of investment. For instance, my friend spends more than half of his salary on ongoing trends under social media influence without even realizing if it is a necessity or a desire.
In conclusion, the excessive waste generated from discarding clothes can negatively impact the environment in long run, while frequently purchasing them can disturb one’s financial budget. Hence, it is predominantly a negative development for individuals and society.
