Nowadays there is a growing demand for wearing up-to date outfits. While I acknowledge the potential drawbacks of this trend – materialism and pollution of environment, I believe that net benefits such as self-expression and stimulation of economic growth carry more weight.
Admittedly, consuming only fashionable clothes can lead to consumerism. People start be focused much more on brands and stylish clothes, and as a result personal qualities take a back seat. Especially in today’s world society tends to judge individuals based on their appearance rather than their character. Such growing obsession with fashion and expensive brands encourages materialism, as people begin to measure success and social status through the things they own rather than who they truly are. Moreover, it has an adverse effect on environment through manufacturing more clothes, factories pollute the air and water, because individuals throw away old clothes by purchasing the new ones.
Despite these arguments, I remain convinced that the merits far outweigh. First and foremost, people become obsessed with fashionable clothes because it gives them a chance to express their personality and individuality properly. By choosing beautiful and out-dating outfits, people feel themselves much more self-assured which will also increase their self-esteem. Additionally, it benefits the economy, as more people buy cloths as much it develops fashion industry. The fashion industry not only stimulates economic growth but also generates employment for millions of people worldwide, from deigns and production to marketing and retail.
In conclusion, although there are decided downsides that stems from current trend, I maintain that the upsides including self-expression and economic growth are much more considerable.
