With changing social norms and living standards, it has become increasingly common for individuals to consume fast food more than others, particularly in urban areas. While there are some clear reasons to this situation, I believe that it could be reduced by taking several measures.
The rise in the popularity of fast food is influenced by convenience and affordability. With busy work and study schedules, many people prefer eating fast food rather than making meals because of required time. In response to these circumstances, it is not surprising to see the rise of fast food consumption, especially in developed countries among busy employees and students. A case in point is my home country of Uzbekistan, where people recently started preferring quick meals due to their busy lifestyle and having ability to buy them.
There are various ways in which the spread of quick meals can be addressed. Firstly, it is essential for public to have enough time to prepare and eat their meals. This can be accomplished by expanding meal times not only in companies, but also in study sectors to eat their homemade products. Without these measures in place, many are likely to continue to consume fast foods. Secondly, government should take responsibility for providing affordable and healthy foods in schools, workplaces and local communities. This involves constructing canteens with healthy foods and adding more nutritious meals to menus of existing food centres. Unless these initiatives are properly implemented, it can be difficult to curb the global issue.
In conclusion, although convenience and low cost are main factors contributing to the increasing popularity of fast food, I believe that raising public awareness and providing healthier food alternatives can help improve this situation.
