Core Values are something that a person believes is morally correct from an experience. I believe core values differ for each person based on their experiences in life and how they obtain their values. The Core Values that resonate with me are Being happy about life; Being curious about nice things; and being respectful to others.
Happiness is something we all want or want to accomplish. However, as we all get older, it gets increasingly challenging to achieve happiness when stress is in our daily lives. There are many different ways to obtain happiness and it’s different for each person depending on their backgrounds and personalities, but the main source of happiness for me is having someone who genuinely cares and loves me as much as I do for them. That’s what keeps me going with happiness. I choose happiness as one of my core values because there are many people and experiences that helped me realize that happiness and having a positive mindset go a long way in life despite everything that is happening around us. Putting a smile on your face and having a positive attitude in life does make a difference in your mental health and your emotional well-being. For an explanation, Okinawa has been one of the happiest places I’ve been in my life. It’s the people; the environment and the culture of this island is very inspirational to me. I never wish to leave this beautiful island where I created so many happy memories and moments in my life and with other people. I have the same memories and moments too.
Curiosity involves exploring topics that you want to know that you didn’t previously have no previous knowledge of before. As kids we were all curious about learning new things and exploring parts of the world that we’d never seen before. That kind of curiosity eventually fades away as we grow, becoming unwilling to learn new things to gain more knowledge and not needing to explore new cultures or places that could inspire us to do more. Curiosity is one of my core values because during the pandemic I was forced to be stuck at home and there wasn’t much to do besides gaming and school, so I turned to YouTube to find some videos to watch and found out how much fun documentaries, history, food, and cultures around the world are. It made me curious about trying new foods and learning how people were or are doing in the world.
Respect is to admire someone for their abilities or qualities that person has acquired or accomplished. Anyone can show or give respect to anyone they feel worthy of or want to show compassion to them. Respect should be given to anyone as long as the person doesn’t do anything to lose your respect. Respect is my last core value because people should at least be given a chance to have respect and to be heard, and not to be judged by what they did in the past. People need to think of the future and not think about the past so much in another person’s life. Respect is something you admire a person for achieving and makes you want to achieve those goals too.
In conclusion, the core values that resonate with me are Happiness in life, Curiosity, and Respect. All these core values are a part of me and how I represent myself as a person to the world who doesn’t know me. By always being positive in life and uplifting people’s lives; Curiosity helps me grow as an individual learning about new things and creating new experiences; Respecting those around you at all times. Those values have stuck with me since I was little till now as a young adult still figuring out how the real world works, being positive makes life easier. Obtaining new knowledge and trying new foods around Okinawa is always exciting and fun, and respectful to coworkers and kids that I have worked with for over a year. Everyone can have core values of their own, but not everyone can have the same experience of getting their core values.
