In today’s world, the alarming degradation of the environment necessitates immediate actions to preserve the world as it is and restore the original state of the nature. Whether politicians or citizens should bear the responsibility of preventing and reducing global environmental damage has sparked debate. From my perspective, both sides have equally important roles in protecting the environment.
Arguments in favor of placing the burden on politicians often highlight the power governments hold. First of all, governments can implement policies that protect the environment. They can introduce higher taxes to factories or industrial sites that generate huge amounts of emissions, forcing them to come up with environmentally friendly alternatives of manufacturing. Second, the politicians can launch campaigns that raise the awareness of people on the preservation of the environment. This can be done by educating everyone, especially young people, about the consequences of global warming, emphasizing the need for immediate actions, punishing those who do harm to the environment, and rewarding the ones who are active in protecting the environment.
Conversely, even though governments’ policies and campaigns can effectively tackle the problem, the inclusion of individuals’ responsibilities cannot be overlooked. It is essential for people to be highly aware of the current situation of the environment and actively look for ways to counter it. Small acts such as turning off lights when not in use, handling waste responsibly, and recycling used products whenever possible can contribute greatly to the protection of the environment. Big changes come from small acts, and with combined efforts from everyone, great changes can be made to the condition of the environment.
In conclusion, both the countries’ politicians and citizens play crucial roles in preventing and reducing environmental damage. To address this global problem, a comprehensive approach involving both the governments’ policies and people’s mindful acts is mandatory.
