The increase of convenience foods have aided individuals in maintaining their occupied lifestyles. I believe that while these foods have various advantages, the disadvantages simply outweigh them.
One of the main advantages is that convenience foods require minimal preparation so people with busy work lives don’t have to worry about preparing food after long shifts. Since people like construction workers already have very long and tiring shifts, they don’t have to spend the little amount of energy they have left preparing food for themselves. Another benefit is that these dishes come in different and various portions so people can easily keep up with their calorie intake as these meals are prepared according to the nutrients the human body needs.
On the other hand, the sudden increase is also very concerning. One of the main reasons is that while these meals are prepared to aid in taking enough nutrition, in order to cut the production cost, some producers can use bad ingredients high in sugar and fats which actually contributes to health issues like obesity and diabetes. Secondly, The increase of convenience foods also mean the loss of culinary skills. As people will stop cooking due to how easily accessible and time saving these dishes are, they will naturally lose their cooking abilities. This also means traditional foods fading away. Lastly, the packaging can have an environmental impact as the packaging and processing of these foods are harmful to the environment like plastic. Furthermore, these environmental factors will only affect the already worsening problem which is global warming.
In conclusion, while these meals are time-efficient and easy to consume, the materials used for packaging can worsen climate change and the ingredients can increase the chances of health problems such as obesity and diabetes
