Some big cities in the world are experiencing a significant traffic increase. This causes a poor quality of life. There are several sources of this problem, such as a lack of sufficient public transportation. Transportation facilities are unpleasant, and the price of vehicles is affordable for many people. Governments have a big role in this problem by encouraging citizens to use public transportation; however, this should be supported by good facilities and many transportation fleets.
Firstly, the lack of transportation fleets causes an accumulation of many passengers during peak hours, such as commuting times to offices. This discomfort causes many passengers to choose their own transportation rather than public transportation. Secondly, facilities at bus stops or train stations still lack care from governments. Discomfort at bus stops or train stations—such as a lack of chairs and unclean toilets—causes citizens to avoid public transportation. Thirdly, the price of vehicles, such as cars and motorcycles, is affordable for many people. The number of personal vehicles is increasing significantly every year. This is due to the availability of installment plans offered by showrooms in every city. People do not need a lot of cash to own a vehicle, so this is one reason for the rising level of traffic.
Governments are the best problem solvers for this issue. There are several solutions that governments in those big cities can apply. For instance, first, increasing the number of public transportation fleets such as buses and trains. Usually, the office area only has three buses traveling to the area; this needs to increase about ten to avoid an accumulation of passengers especially during peak hours. This should be supported by comfortable facilities that satisfy passengers.
The implementation of this solution has actually been implemented in many cities such as Sydney, London, and Amsterdam. So, it is not impossible to apply it to reduce traffic problems in several big cities.
