Many determinants shape how individuals do their shopping. This essay strongly agrees that the most important of these is how old the person is. Firstly, adults are more likely to budget and be more sensible with money. Secondly, people’s desires change as they grow older.
Generally, children are less accountable in their lives. This is especially true when it comes to money, because they do not carry the burden of finances and do not have to provide for themselves or for others. Therefore, they are more prone to spend carelessly without considering the consequences. Conversely, adults usually budget and deal with money cautiously, because they are responsible for themselves and their families. A 2020 American Study showed that, the older they get, the more successful people are in saving and investing their wealth.
Moreover, people’s interests vary by age. On the one hand, children love toys, and are more drawn towards color and catchy features. On the other hand, adults prefer to buy functional products and usually focus on quality and reliability. For example, my older brother recently took his son out to buy a new shirt, and the little boy only cared about color and interesting designs, while my brother was concerned with the material of products.
In summary, while the shopping habits of people are influenced by different factors, such as gender, social level, education, and peer pressure, this essay argues that their age group is the most potent one. This is because of the increased responsibility and careful usage of money in adults, and because every age group is interested in buying different things.
