The tables shows the sales of Fairtrade coffee and bananas in five European countries in 1999 and 2004. The numbers are given in millions of euros.
Overall, the sales of coffee increased in all countries, especially in the UK. But for bananas some countries increased while others decreased.
For coffee, the UK had the biggest change. In 1999 it was only 1.5 million euros but in 2004 it went up a lot to 20 million euros. Switzerland also increased from 3 to 6 million euros. Denmark and Sweden had small increases, from 1.8 to 2 and from 0.8 to 1 million euros. Belgium also went up to about 1.7 million euros.
For bananas, Switzerland had the highest sales in both years. It increased strongly from 15 million to 47 million euros. The UK also increased from about 1 to 5.5 million euros. Belgium also grew from 0.6 to 4 million euros. However Sweden and Denmark went down. Sweden fell from 1.8 to 1 million euros and Denmark from 2 to 0.9 million euros.
So we can see that coffee sales increased everywhere but banana sales changed differently in countries.
