In contemporary society, social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter play a significant role in people’s daily communication. Many people now prefer chatting or calling online, while others may argue that face-to-face contact is better for life. This phenomenon presents both merits and drawbacks; however, I contend that the advantages predominantly outweigh the disadvantages.
Online communication has some positive aspects. First of all, people who live, study or work abroad can easily talk to their family through video calls or messages. Nowadays, the number of individuals who work abroad has increased, so they do not have opportunities to meet their close friends, loved ones, and family every day. Another major advantage is that online meetings also save time. Instead of spending hours traveling to meet someone, people can communicate on social media, such as Facebook and Twitter.
On the other hand, using messengers too much in our life can lead to serious challenges. Humans can get used to social media and spend too much time there. Firstly, it negatively impacts the depth of real-life relationships. For instance, people cannot show what they feel and emotions. Secondly, spending too much time online can lead to loneliness and depression. For example, individuals can get a lot of friends on messengers, but still feel isolated in everyday life. Lastly, it can affect relationships, as digital communication often leads to misunderstandings.
In conclusion, although social media may reduce face-to-face interaction, its ability to connect people quickly and easily brings more benefits than drawbacks.
