In the recent years, there has been a spike in the proportion of people suffering from obesity and its associated health problems worldwide. One of the major contributing factors for this is the excessive consumption of processed food and fast foods. In this essay, I am going to discuss some of the main reasons why people choose these options, and the measures that can be taken at different levels to improve the eating habits.

The unhealthy eating habits is caused by several factors. Firstly, our lives have become busier and more competitive. Many have become so busy that they do not have time to cook at home. Processed and fast foods have become easily available everywhere at cheaper price. So people tend to go for them instead. Some people, especially the youngsters, despite knowing the side effects, continue taking these foods simply because it gives them pleasure in their stressful lives. Moreover, it is difficult to avoid the widespread advertisements, sales and offers by the fast food companies. The lack of awareness about their harmful effects among the population is evident. Hence, obesity and its complications continues to be on a rise.

The governments can take several steps to prevent these: banning processed and fast foods and the advertisements by their companies, arranging public health awareness campaigns and educating the population especially the youths about obesity and its detrimental effects. If needed, it should be included in the school curriculums to warn them from a younger age. People should be encouraged to have balanced diet and increase the intake of fruits and vegetables. However, the problem cannot be solved unless initiaves are taken at the individual level. People should adopt healthy lifestyles including excercise, mediation and yoga to reduce stress.

In conclusion, there are obvious reasons for growing obesity and its complications worldwide while there are solutions too. Therefore, it is high time for everyone to come together to solve this problems.
