It is becoming a critical issue where the presence of junk foods and sugary beverages is a major cause to the rising number of obesity and related health complications in a global scale. In this essay, the main triggers of people joining the on-going trend, and what actions can governments and individuals implement in order to improve their diet.

The most prominent root to this problem is that mega-sized companies prioritize revenue despite of the repercussions issued from their products. As long as the demand for said type of product prevails, it is almost impossible for consumers to abolish these practics. For instance, fast food chains, such as KFC and McDonald’s will continue to operate to satisfy their customers’ desires. In addition, a person’s personal unhealthy eating habit drives the repetition which is detrimental for their well-being. Observing from past cases, this cycle can be extremely difficult to break as an addiction has been formed.

Therefore, impactful measures should be taken to combat this severe challenge, especially by consumers and governments. Consumers should increase their consciousness regarding health and acknowledge the negative outcome from an unhealthy diet. Educative content can also be widely spread to support this crucial movement, leveraging younger generation to adopt healthier dietary habits. Furthermore, governments are also expected to encourage this campaign by creating protective legislation in which the production of these foods should be limited and carefully supervised. Moreover, fundings for healthier food options are essential for low-income families.

In conclusion, processed foods and drinks impact individuals’ physical fitness negatively. Therefore, strings of actions are advised to be taken by consumers and governments in order to prevent the destructive results from this pressing issue.
