A generation ago, teaching is perceived as a noble professional and more people want to became teacher and considered as a well respected and popular job, and in some countries it still true. However, many parts of the world there is the sharp decline of young people who want to became a high school teacher. In this essay we will discuss it causes and propose some solutions.
One of the main reasons of the problem is teacher’s low salaries as compared to other professionals. Over the years teacher’s pay’s growth don’t keep the same pace as others does. As the result their pay scale got huge difference with other skilled worker’s pay, such as IT, law and medicine. In the UK for example, a doctor is pay is way more than teacher with the same experience. The solution is for the government is to increase teacher’s pay significantly, that it would attract more young people to this noble profession and should match other professional’s pay with teacher so they don’t feel left behind and underpaid.
Another problem is that many children didn’t respect their teacher and they don’t behave well in class. This is to say, teacher often have to face student who disobey them, which usually cause them to give up teaching, this trend should put off potential teacher as well. The solution to this problem is parents should teach their children to respect their teachers, in order to make them behaves well in class.
A third cause of the problem is that teacher often have a lot of work to do. Most teacher are snowed under with marking and paperwork, which means that they have to do overtime and working in home in evening as well, As the result their personal life is effect and they left with no time with their families often they both suffers because of their job. To cut their load school should hire teacher’s assistant that would really help teachers to get the job done on time with no work pressure or stress on them, which would make teaching an easier job.
To sum up, teaching has become a much less popular as compared to other professionals in many countries, due to low pay, less respect in society and working hours. This is the serious problem and unless we can get more talented and young people become teachers, the education of our children will suffer. In my view solving these problems lies with parents and the government.
