Job is the main source of income for the majority of employees and a high salary through working overtime and extra bonuses allow individuals to improve their quality of life, afford better housing, healthcare and education.
Despite these convenient aspects, drawbacks of working excessively and overtime are far more important. One major disadvantage is such excessive commitments often lead to physical and mental health problems. Some labor activities are strictly regulated by governments in a such way that to prevent burnout and diminishing of returns. For instance, the Federal Motor carrier Safety Administration in the USA mandate set of rules under the hours of service , truck drivers are only allowed to drive up to 11 hours and must take breaks to prevent fatigue and ensure road safety. Equally important is maintaining strong family bonds. When individuals prioritize their job , they often miss important moments such as family dinners and children’s birthday , often leads to feeling of neglect and emotional distance among themselves. This results to families breakdown and kids being orphaned and addicted to social security.
In conclusion, although dedicating much time to working entails several advantages such as career growth and high salary prospects, these are not as significant as disadvantages, which include emotional and physical stress and disruption of family relationships
