Band 5+: To what extent do you agree or disagree with the statement that governments should prioritize funding for space exploration programs over other important societal needs such as healthcare and education?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many think that instead of providing more funds for crucial societal needs such as health and education, the government should prioritize more on allocating budgets towards space exploration acts. However, my thinking is just opposite to this, and I completely disagree with this assertion. This is because when the government prioritizes funding for important societal needs like health and education, a nation can produce much healthier as well as much literate manpower. Moreover, this also helps in alleviating severe problems like poverty from a society, which is far more important than researching in space.

With more funds from the government towards societal needs, a country can produce manpower essential for developing a nation. Without properly educated and healthy citizens, a nation can never achieve development, as people are the ones who get involved in several works like construction, finance, technology, and so on, to develop their country. Hence, producing educated as well as fit individuals is extremely necessary for a country, and the best way to do that is by allocation of more funds by the government towards making their precious citizens healthier and educated, by providing adequate amount of funds for health and education programs, people could learn valuable knowledge as well as skills, which can benefit a nation more than spending money on useless space programs. For example, Australia’s literacy rate is much higher in comparison to Nepal’s due to which Australia has achieved major developments, but Nepal is still struggling to do so.

In addition to this, allocation of more government fund towards societal needs can remove problems like poverty. This is because as soon as the government gives enough funding, several educational as well as health programs will be launched with that budget in the society, and when people attend these programs they can learn new skillsets, and also learn important knowledge about health, which in turn can open doors for many employment opportunities due to which people will be able to earn more and poverty will get eliminated. For instance, if people learn about proper diet and nutrition from a health program, then they can go to other places and teach this to huge amount of other people and they can get paid for teaching them. Nevertheless, people can also start a paid online course to earn wealth.

In conclusion, I think it’s really important for the government to focus more on providing funds for societal needs as it helps a country to benefit a lot through production of skilled and healthy citizens who will develop the nation with their knowledge. Furthermore, problems like increasing poverty can also be tackled by this approach of government.
