Fast food has adverse effect on one’s health and some nations have been introducing higher taxes to minimize the consumption of junk food. In this essay, my stance is to support why I feel higher levy would discourage people from eating fast food.
I have read an article by Harvard Review recently which indicates that Malaysia has one of the highest obesity problem in Asia. The contributing factor is fast food which I am strongly agreed that the diet needs to be controlled. Out of many approaches, raising taxes will be the effective ones based on the article from Harvard. For example, higher tax rate will alert the consumers to think twice before buying and the government is implementing elevated taxes for the health benefits of their people. The text, verbal and multimedia contents across various social media will not stop people from eating fast food based on Harvard study. People will feel the pain point when they need to dig deep into their pocket for fast food.
In relating to this, people will not realize the consequence of taking fast food until they encounter health issues one day. Higher levy on fast food from the authority helps to reduce the number of health issues such as Diabetes, Heart diseases and so on. As people grow older and they will find the initiative by the government is actually helping the people to stay healthy.
Lastly, I gave all my reasons as I was a fast food eater when I was young and I had suffered many diseases and I feel if our Malaysian government have had initiated higher taxes to people, I believe it has some deterring effects to bar people from buying unhealthy food.
