Nowadays because of advancement in medicine, the longevity has increased significantly. As a result, the ratio of elderly population over juniors rises. I personally believe, more people with higher life expectancy in a society cause strain on health care infrastructures and therefore it has a detrimental effect on economy.
One of the drawbacks of an aging population is, the older the individuals get the higher they are at the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardio vascular issues, and many other illnesses. Moreover, elderly patients expected to recover later than regular ones. Healthcare staff must work harder to provide relevant care towards those particular patients and in a long run they face significant burnt out. Furthermore, the more workforces experience longer work hours, the greater effort requires for government to hire additional staff and more damage to economy. Therefore, this situation not only cause longer work hours for people in healthcare, but also it requires a tremendous amount of money to be injected to those fields. For example, in the NHS recently due to bed blocking and aging population doctors and nurses had to work approximately about eighty hours per week to be able to cover each departments without jeprodisring patients safety. Therefore, government could not pay the differences in the hours that have been worked by the staff and as a result more strikes happened in the UK.
On the other hand, with growing the number of older population in a society, younger ones have more opportunities to use their wisdom’s in terms of their experiences and have them as a bridge towards hardships in one’s life. Additionally, sometimes having seniors in a family member cause others to gather around each other occasionally and have some quality time. For example in Iran, individuals attempt to keep the relationship between the elders and the young ones strong by visiting them on special events. Therefore, the elixir of one’s wisdom and personal experience, both of which are invaluable, should take in account seriously.
In conclusion, medical advancement have dramatically boosted human life expectancy, this demographic shift has led to fewer individuals with less life experience. I personally believe, the drawback outweigh the advantages.Today due to advanced medicine, people are living longer. Because of this, older people are projected to outnumber younger people. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?
