Band 8+: Today's schools should teach their students how to survive financially in the world today. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There are those who insist that schools should teach their students how to survive economically in today’s world. This essay agrees that it is the educational duty of schools to equip students with skills for financial independence, as these lessons are essential for their overall success.

To begin with, schools must offer various types of education, not just mathematics or English, but also instruction on managing one’s financial life. Therefore, it is crucial for students to learn survival skills, allowing them to spend their time in school more meaningfully. For example, a high school in Toronto, Canada, introduced a unique finance class in the 1990s that teaches students about maintaining a healthy economic lifestyle. Research collected from the school’s graduates revealed that 89.7% of respondents agreed that ‘the class was helpful in improving their future financial situation.’

Additionally, schools need to make a concerted effort to lead their students towards success, making financial management lessons indispensable. This ability is closely linked to achieving success in life. To be accomplished, we must recognize the importance of financial survival skills. For instance, a study conducted by the North American Financial Association found that 73% of respondents with assets over $10,000,000 agreed that taking a class focused on financial survival skills was necessary for their future.

In conclusion, this essay supports the idea that today’s schools must provide lessons on how to survive economically. Schools have a responsibility to offer meaningful classes that prepare students for their future and assist them in achieving lasting success.
