In some developed countries, despite good living conditions and safe, healthy lifestyle, young generation is more likely to feel unhappy. There can be variety of reasons to this phenomenon such as stress and too much screen time. In order to eliminate these problems few measurements can be taken.
One key reason for this lies in education and academic competition in schools. Most students over study to be the best among their peers. This may lead them to feel stressed and harm their emotional intelligence. For example, in Japan where depression in young generation is highly ranked, students spend big part of their days in schools or attending to specific courses to match high expectation of teachers and parents. Another contributing factor is spending too much time on screen. Watching unrealistic lifestyle of others on media, children may think that they are not doing enough and may cause low self-esteem
To solve this issue several actions in family and in society should be taken. Families should provide emotional support and entertain their children with some sports or gamesm, rather than forcing them. This will boost child’s confidence and lowers tendency to depression. In schools, skills such as stress management and mental health education should be taught. Teachers should manage with each student’s mentality and give them support. These may help young people feel more happier and safer.
In conclusion, many children may feel less happy even though they have good living conditions this may be result of social media and fear of failing but if support is given by schools and family, especially parents, it may help children feel more better.
