Band 7+: Topic: In some countries, young people have become richer, healthier and live longer, but they are less happy. Question: What are the causes? What can be done to address this situation?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In an era shaped by technological advancement and modern lifestyles, many argue that the younger generation in several countries is not only richer and safer, but also healthier than ever before. However, despite these improvements, many young people still feel unhappy. While the problem of unhappiness among youngsters largely boils down to a lack of purpose in life, I strongly believe that social support and balanced lifestyles are of paramount importance when it comes to tackling this underlying issue.

With the advancement of technology, along with the advent of high-speed internet and the proliferation of electronic gadgets, such as smartphones and computers, a large number of individuals, especially school-aged learners and undergraduates have been accustomed to scrolling through social media and TV shows, both of which have led to the rise of comparison with others as well as a sedentary lifestyle. Given these circumstances, it comes as no surprise that many young people receive negative pressure through social distractions to academic and overall success in career prospects due to constant comparison with successful peers, thereby leading to negative impacts on their overall quality of life and unhappiness lifestyle.

From a practical perspective, social support system serves as a powerful catalyst for alleviating the phenomenon of affliction. If authorities, academic institutions and even families begin to strengthen social support systems for the young generation, in particular through school psychologists or programs to mental health, youngsters are likely to develop a stronger sense of purpose. As a result, they are able to enhance not only career prospects, but also their overall quality of life without stressful lifestyle while simultaneously maintaining their well-being. Without the implementation of these measures, it may be almost impossible to avoid unhappiness, irrespective of their wealth, safety and health.

In conclusion, in some countries, many individuals, namely young people often feel less happy, given they are richer, safer and healthier than ever before. Although affliction among youngsters is reducing their purposes , I feel that social supporting plays an indispensable role in achieving a happy life.
