For example, Mount Everest faces significant environmental challenges due to the high number of climbers, creating severe pollution. Therefore, using of transportation to reach such destinations contributes to the carbon footprint, threatening local wildlife and escalating climat change.
Economic disproportion is another considerable concern. Tourism can bring economic benefits to a country, but they are not distributed properly. The tourism industry is mostly owned by foreign corporations, receiving most of the financial gain. For instance, safari destinations like Kenya, dominated by international tour operators, control pricing and profit, leaving local communities with minimal economic gain. Moreover, the influx of tourists can raise the cost of living, making housing and essential goods increasingly unaffordable for locals. Thus, tourism can promote econimic growth in the area, but its benefits must be equitably distributed.
