In today’s world, immense growth has been observed in the tourism sector. While this expansion has contributed significantly to economic development, it has also proven to be highly destructive to the environment. Therefore, tourism should be banned in certain sensitive areas. I completely agree with this view and will discuss my perspectives in the following paragraphs.
To begin with, tourists today explore far more destinations than they did a decade ago. With the rise of travel companies and affordable tour packages, international travel has become increasingly accessible. However, this surge in tourism has negatively impacted the peace and stability of many regions. For instance, countries such as New Zealand and Canada are renowned for their natural beauty and tranquility. Within these nations, there are small towns and villages where local communities prefer a quiet and undisturbed lifestyle. The growing number of tourists in such areas often intrudes upon the residents’ privacy and disrupts their peaceful way of life.
Furthermore, in order to accommodate the rising number of visitors, extensive construction of hotels, resorts, and restaurants takes place, often at the cost of forests and mountains. This large-scale development severely disrupts the natural ecosystem. Not only do animals lose their natural habitats, but deforestation also leads to air pollution, climate imbalance, and the emergence of new diseases. For example, Himachal Pradesh in India, popularly known as the “land of mountains,” attracts millions of tourists each year to destinations like Manali. To cater to this demand, mountains are frequently cut down to build hotels, villas, and cafés. Such development increases traffic congestion and diminishes the natural beauty of the region. As a result, the government has imposed restrictions on tourist entry in certain areas to preserve the environment and protect the local community.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that in order to safeguard the environment and maintain ecological balance, it is essential to ban tourism in specific areas. Sustainable development should be prioritised over uncontrolled tourism to ensure long-term environmental protection.
