It is undeniable that men and women should have equal access to same educational and job opportunities. However, I completely disagree with the idea that accepting equal proportions of each gender in every university lessons. In my opinion, different genders have different career preferences and psychological characteristics.
First of all, it is a unrealistic thing that the university have same number of men and women on all degree university’s courses. Number of students on any courses depends on the applications that the university receives. If a university decide to admit the equal numbers of each gender in every subject, it would need enough applications from men and women. In some cases, many majors are more attractive to one gender than the other one, so the number of the university applications may to have one-side phenomenon, meaning that it is almost impossible to accept the same number from male and female. For example, In fields such as construction, civil engineering and manufacturing, women’s participation is relatively low. This may be related to traditional gender role stereotypes, masculinity of the work environment, physical requirements, so these majors will receive 90% applications from men, with few amount of women interested with these subjects. As a result, having the same numbers of each sexes in every subject seems unrealistic.
Additionally, one another reason that I against the given opinion is that it is unfair to base employment for a position on the gender of an applicant. If a female candidate is a best choice for a position in a subject, it is surely wrong to reject her in a favour of a male with lower grades and fewer qualifications.
In conclusion,Universities should treat all condidates fairly by considering their academic performance, personal statements, comprehensive qualities, experiences, professional interests, diversity, and interviews, etc.,rather than their gender.
