Band 6+: Watching too much television can lead to lower academic performance among students. Do you agree or disagree with this statement?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Television plays a significant role in the lives of students, while it can be a source of entertainment and information. I firmly agree that excessive television viewing can negatively impact students’ academic performance.

On the one hand, watching TV for too long will leave you with no time to do other things like studying or exercising. For example, many students become so absorbed in TV shows or movies that they ignore their academic responsibilities. This time mismanagement often leads to learning to decline, and thus academic results have also gone down.

On the other hand, television can negatively affect a student’s attention span. Most televisions emit electromagnetic waves, long-term exposure to electromagnetic waves can cause both headaches and fatigue. Not only that, watching television for too long can be harmful to the eyes, especially for children in the development stage.

Moreover, the sedentary lifestyle associated with excessive television viewing contributes to several health issues that indirectly impact academic performance. Lack of physical activity can lead to fatigue, poor sleep quality, and reduced overall well-being. These factors negatively affect concentration, motivation, and energy levels, ultimately hindering academic progress. A well-rested and physically active student is better equipped to handle academic pressures and achieve optimal academic outcomes.

In conclusion, although television can offer some educational benefits, its excessive use can be harmful to students’ learning. So to use TV effectively, you need to allocate time reasonably, you should not watch TV for too long during the day. In the future, parents also need to manage their children’s television usage more closely so as not to negatively affect them.
