Band 7+: Water pollution has been an increasing problem over the last few decades. What causes water pollution? How can we prevent this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is said that water pollution has long been a critical environmental issue. Although there can be various causes for this problem, mainly due to human’s activities, there are some steps in order to address this, like imposing some restrictions and building better water treatment infrastructures.

One of the main causes of water pollution is industrial discharge. Nowadays, numerous factories and industries often release toxic chemicals, metals, and wastewater directly into the rivers, lakes, and oceans. These pollutants can affect water sources, making them unsafe for human consumption and damaging ecosystems. For example, if some ingredients that are commonly found in industrial waste reach the food chain, it will result in serious health issues. Moreover, urbanization and population growth also play a crucial role in this matter, as more sewage and wastewater are generated. Consequently, in many places, untreated water is discharged into the rivers.

On the other hand, there can be some methods that can be used to tackle these problems. One of the most effective ways to reduce water pollution is through strict regulation. The government can impose some limits for the amount of pollutants that industries can discharge into water and ensure that companies treat their wastes before discharging them. In addition, urban water pollution can be addressed by enhancing sewage and water treatment plant infrastructure. This means that improving and expanding water treatment infrastructure would ensure that wastewater is adequately treated before discharge.

In conclusion, although water pollution has been a significant problem in the last century owing to several reasons, such as industrial wastewater and overpopulated cities, to prevent further degradation, it is essential to implement restricted discharging regulation and invest in modern infrastructure.
