In recent years, weddings have become larger and more expensive than in the past. There are several reasons for this trend, and I believe it is a negative development.
To begin with, there are several reasons why some weddings in modern society are getting bigger and cost a large amount of money. The first reason is that weddings are an important event in human life, so people want to hold them on a grander scale. In the past, ancestors held weddings more simply, because they knew that their parents did not have enough money to organize a big wedding. However, with the development of society, financial resources have also improved, and young people obviously want to have a big wedding. Additionally, young people want to invite their friends to come to their significant events. When inviting friends to weddings, their parents must find larger places to organize the events. Therefore, the costs to rent these places are getting more expensive.
On the other hand, I believe that organizing weddings on a larger scale than in the past brings about many negative aspects for society. Firstly, some families would enter into competition to show their wealth. This leads to forcing them to spend excessive amounts of money on such celebrations. For example, a poor family wanting to hold a big wedding for their child might need to borrow a large amount of money from the bank. However, this activity could surpass their ability to repay, leaving them in debt. Secondly, holding a large wedding could waste resources like food or drinks. For instance, after weddings are organized in a restaurant, it is usually reported that a great number of leftovers would be thrown away as it is impossible for them to be reused.
In conclusion, while there are several reasons why people want to organize weddings that are bigger and more expensive than in the past, I agree that it is a negative trend.
