In today’s world, advertising is a tool used by companies to influence people’s desires. There are several strategies that can make an advertisement powerful. I believe that its impact on society is more negative than positive. Throughout this essay, I will elaborate on this point.
To begin with, celebrities are the primary tools that corporations employ to create successful advertisements. People who admire famous individuals often feel compelled to purchase the same products to align their own status with that of these celebrities. This approach is particularly prevalent in the cosmetics and perfume industries. The second effective marketing strategy involves showcasing products within brief time frames. For instance, in a two-minute video on social media, various advertisements can be presented to highlight different products. Therefore, featuring well-known artists and conveying messages succinctly are key reasons why advertising has become such an influential method in modern society.
In my opinion, advertising creates a multitude of problems that affect not only society but also the environment. By watching advertisements, individuals often end up spending their money on unnecessary items, believing that these products represent quality or a high standard of living. Consequently, some middle-class families struggle to afford certain items and ultimately lose their confidence. Additionally, printed flyers and posters, which harm the environment, are commonly used by advertisers. For example, studies on advertising waste show that nearly half of the flyers dispersed by planes end up being discarded due to the wind blowing them away.
In conclusion, while using celebrities and conveying information quickly are major factors contributing to effective advertisements, I believe that the drawbacks to society and the environment far outweigh these benefits.
