Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Social Media is a double-edged sword having both a positive and a negative side. I believe that the social media can be used as an important means of communication and the misuse of it along with the ignorance of the way that it should be used has casted a negative shadow to it.

The benefits of social media, if used as it was meant to be used, has and always will outweight the downfalls that it has. The connectivity of the entire world can be taken as a prime example of the importance of social media. Without social media, the modern day human being would find it difficult to get the daily news and information to stay connected with the world. On the other hand, the overuse of this technology can make the masses addicted to it. For example, I use social media to get news and keep in touch with my social circle, which can be a boon in this chaotic world. But, if I start to use a social media platform like Instagram and keep on watching reels on it without any interruptions, then it would cause me a great deal of agony physiologically and pschologically.

Social Media has caused quite an uproar in today’s society. With the misinformation and propoganda that are spread on the various platforms, it cannot be taken as a simple threat. We can hear plenty of news about the manipulation of the data and information by an ill-intentioned personality to persuade the public in their favour. With the rapid rise of AI (Artificial Intelligence), the rise in deepfake videos have become a huge concern for the various people having authority. This problem will likely become a huge headache for many politicians around the world, as 2024 is going to be the year in which almost half the world’s population is going to cast their vote in the upcoming elections.

The use of social media for its utility has yielded great ease in the way of living for people, but the misuse of it has been a rising issue in today’s day and age. Various governments around the world have started to control and even ban certain social media platforms, like TikTok, which is widely popular globally and is being used to spread fake news and control the narrative in one’s favour. I personally find this approach as a violation to human rights and condemn such immature actions. In conclusion, I would like implementation of a solution which should increases people’s awareness towards the usage of social media and would not create any need for authoratarian supervision.
