Band 6+: While people in developing countries are happier than in the past, people in developed countries are less happy. Why? What can be learnt from this?

Although the level of happiness amongst those living in emerging countries is increasing, citizens in developed nations are reportedly less happy than in the past. This essay will elaborate on several reasons for this problem and suggest some lessons that can be learnt from this.

On the one hand, there has some possible culprits attributed to this phenomenon. Firstly, regarding to the economically emerging nations, the primary rationales why happiness is surging in these nations is the rapid growth of the economy and urbanization. This has resulted in facilitating citizen’s living conditions, the expansion of job opportunities, hence an overall rise in the sense of fulfilment with delight, which is considered as an element contributing to the higher life expectancy of human beings. Secondly, individuals living in the first word have to cope with heavy workloards to enhance their current salaries, and environmental problems. As a result, they are not able to allocate their spare time to take care of their well-being, which may cause emotional distress and other health issues like respiratory diseases, nervous systems.

On the other hand, the lessons that can be drawn from the two phenomena are detecable. Chief of these is that financial sufficiency is crucial when it comes to human health and happiness. If society’s life is stable with advanced technology and connectivity, they can live without any worries over how to make ends meet, so citizens’ stress can be significantly alleviated. Another noteworthy point is that balanced material progress with social connections and community engagement. By having a work-life balance, dwellers are able to spend quality time with their family in order to strengthen family, which helps them enhance life satisfaction and happiness.

In conclusion, economic development is a vital roof leading to the happiness of the third world, while the pressure of being successful triggers an unhappy life for those living in first world nations. Lessons learned from those phenomena are any resident can manage their feelings if financial sufficiency and work-life balance can be ensured.
