Band 8+: While some people claim that advertising drives economic growth, others suggest it harms society by making individuals feel unhappy with themselves and their belongings.Consider both arguments and present your viewpoint.

In today’s fast-paced world, the role of advertisement is becoming a topic of considerable debate. While some believe that ads enhance the economy of the country, others assert that it has adverse effects and leads to dissatisfaction among individuals. This essay will discuss both views and argue in favor of the latter.

On the one hand, advertisement can amplify a brand’s visibility and increase sales. The logic behind this opinion is that if companies begin advertising and posting or telling about products on the Internet or in public and make them viral, they can significantly elevate their sales percentage, which will therefore lead to better brand popularity. For example, large companies, such as L’Oreal Paris, Rare Beauty, and Rhode became popular from advertisements of their cosmetic products on social media platforms, and, by the report of the CEOs of these organizations, endorsements on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook resulted in a rise of their sales by 50%. This ultimately led to economic growth of the country because, with the number of trades on cosmetics, companies paid a huge amount of tax to the government, which was therefore allocated to the development of the country’s infrastructure.

On the other hand, despite such advantages of ads, I think the negative outcomes can far outweigh the positive because corporations depict services in an idealized manner and persuade clients to buy their items with manipulative tactics. When firms start creating unrealistic expectations among consumers, it often leads to a sense of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. As in most sales pitches, businesses showcase glossy images with airbrushed models, polished pictures without delineating how the products look in real life, and make exaggerated claims about goods; most naive customers may buy by following and believing in the “perfect” quality of items. A case in point is cosmetic products, where companies employ young models with paper-white teeth and perfect bodies to sell their beauty products by telling consumers that it is possible to reach such results or have clean skin by using skincare from a particular firm.

In conclusion, while some opponents regard advertising as invaluable for economic growth, I personally think that there are other ways of developing a country’s economy. In fact, advertising makes people feel sad about their purchases in most cases by implementing high and unattainable standards.
