Nowadays, modern workplace has evolved significantly, with many organizations offering flexible work arrangements. This change rose an argument over whether it provides important benefits or potential drawbacks.
On the one hand, flexible working schedules help to keep work-life balance. As employees can chose comfortable working hours for themselves in order to maintain their personal lives and spend more time with their loved ones. For example, it is very beneficial for parents because it provides better childcare and also mother and dad can be more involved in child’s life and can better participate in their growing. Another significant benefit is that flexibility at workplace rises productivity of workers. Employees can increase productivity by working in comfortable environment and in hours suitable for them. For instance, one part of workers might show better results working at early mornings, while the other proportion can act active during midnights.
On the other hand, the major concern is a loss of team cohesion. In traditional office atmosphere, with every day face-to-face interactions and various meetings, employees can built strong relationships and foster collaboration. When involvement of remote jobs begins it can be reason of communication challenges among colleagues. This can lead to misunderstandings and low work quality. Additionally, there will be difficulties while monitoring employee’s performance. As everyone will work at different time shifts and from various locations, it is going to be hard and time-consuming for managers to track everyone’s work quality and attendance. As a result some workers who can not act in a trustworthy way will show very poor results without constant monitoring and company will need to fire them; it decreases the amount of workforce.
In conclusion, while flexible working arrangements offer benefits such as balance between work and personal life and increased work quality as long as productivity, it also demonstrates several disadvantages like loss of teamwork and collaboration and difficulties in employee monitoring.
