Students’ concentration in classroom around the world has decreased. One of the main reasons for this is that there are too many distractions, such as smartphones, in addition, noice pollution can make it harder to concentrate. To make the attention span longer, these factors need to be controlled, by limiting the usage of smartphones or lowering the noice pollution.
In many classrooms, smartphones and other devices are allowed during the classes. Students may use their phones instead of listening to teachers, furthermore the notifications will make it harder to concentrate on the lesson. Moreover, social platformes available through phones have changed habits of people. For example, short videos, such as reels, shorts, tiktoks are ussualy under one minute, and each video has a different topic, and when students have to listen to long classes for one hour or more they get bored, and lose attention. Another reason is that, educational centers are often build near the busy roads, which can be a noice pollution source. It may be difficult for students to concentrate, when they constantly hear the cars signal, most of the time it’s loud and annoying.
To longer the attention span of the students, I suggest to limit the time they spend on their phones, to collect the smartphones during the classes, and allow to use during the breaks. If there is someting important or an emergancy situation, parents can contact their kids through teacher. To lower the noice pollution, it would be great to build schools far from the roads or limit the amount of cars to solve the traffic problem. For example, in South Korea, students are not allowed to use their phones during the classes, moreover, during the exams, to get read of the noice pollution caused by transportation, they delay flights, which has a significant impact on students’ attention span and eventually exam scores.
To conclude, lower attention span is a big problem among students nowadays, mainly caused by new tecnologies and other distractions, such as noice pollution. To tackle this ptoblem, they need to be controlled by the authorities, or the government globally, by limiting the usage of the devices during the classes, and controlling of the sources of noice pollution.
