It is a rather contradictory and challenging topic. In my opinion, it is quite risky according both to the social and financial aspects. I don’t share a particular side, and i think there should be a compromise as such idea holds great potential as well.

It is widely known that health insurance in most countries is already very expensive, and most often is the wealthy people who can afford themselves a health insurance. If the health insurance agencies would be officially required to take genetic information from their clients, the prices will grow infinitelly. Surely it is a great idea for the people who are at the high risk zone to certain diseases, as they wouldn’t care for the medical payment once they get sick. However, it is difficult to determine if the person’s possible disease will even affect their health, as human’s genes hold lots of information and it’s not always a hundred percent potential of getting sick. If to look from the other side, it is always better to take care of yourself and be ready. These are the individual benefits and disadvantages, but if to assess the topic from the general, social view, then such practice could bring a lot of advances for the government and society. Health insurances always keep a valuable information about their clients, and with knowledge about genes, it could hold a great importance in any emergencies. The disadvantage is, that still, with high prices on such services, it’s a clear privilege and it would help only to a small, exclusive part of the society.

Overall, I don’t find this idea actually good. With higher prices on already expensive services health insurance would become even a bigger privilege, which can cause ethical and social dissonance.
