Nowadays many people are exposed to follow idealized images of beauty and success in social media. From my perspective, this exposure spreads many problems with self-esteem and personal well-being among the society. Fortunetely, there are some ways to get out of such harmful consequences or to prevent them.
In today’s world, the expanding of beauty standards on social media affects drastically on everyone, especially on sensetive individuals. Additionally, teenagers are threatened most of all, as their mental health is far too fragile. So when internet users see unrealistic images of “perfect life”, which are usually made delibaretly by influencers, they become disappointed and burdened by thoughts about improving their life and making it look like on Instagram. Subsequently, those thoughts bring anxiety and concern about their future. Moreover, after trying to enhance their lives, individuals unconsciously face decrasing a self-confedence.
To prevent such harmful consequences, people should learn more about the “psycology of social media”. To clearify, if everyone is aware of the fact that bloggers get paid for many likes in social media and viral videos, they may have more sceptic opinion on that. Even though, influencers do not always have bad intentions, they want to enhance their posts on the internet, in order to attract more followers. Consequentely, as they had more followers, they can be paid more for advertising different products by other companies.
To conclude, I believe that if people want to avoid harmful effects of the social media, they should learn how to analyse the environment and other’s people’s intentions. Furthermore, they should take into account the implausibility of “perfect” lives because all of us are people and we are not perfect.
