These days, the crime rate is increasing alarmingly everyday. As a consequence, seldom do we hear people claim that if there are no death sentences, our life might be harmed and the number of criminals might jump. Personally, I am strongly convinced by the given statement.
To begin with, capital punishment is necessary for criminals to learn their lesson, stop their wrong behaviors, from that, the general population can be protected and the violence rate might decrease. According to a recent study, the murder rate in a small town of Manchester city has decreased from 20 to 12 percent when the city council give the death penalty to a serial killer. Another reason is that capital punishment can maintain prison populations at manageable levels and prevent violence acts in prisons.With an alarming high rate of crime nowadays, it seems unavoidable that the population in prisons might be difficult to control. According to recent research, the U.S. prison population has risen 700% since 1970, which may result in the increase in violence acts and prison riots. Because of that, the death penalty may be considered one of the most effective ways to avoid overpopulation in prisons, decrease the rate of violence and protect the lives of other citizens.
To sum up, without the presence of capital punishment, our lives may become more vulnerable, and there might be an increased likelihood of crimes or violence occurring. In my opinion, the government should be the responsible authority to provide a secure and better state to live in. Laws should be implemented and executed in the most proper way that do not allow the offender to commit violent acts or to break the law in any way and to any extent.
