Punishment is a form of repent. If a person commits crime, he or she should be punished accordingly. The capital punishment or death penalty is a method of chastising which has been around for centuries. From the age of empires to present. It was rampant during the monarchial era; when kings used to rule. These days it is still prevalent, but the frequency has reduced greatly. The main reason we see less death penalties today is the rise of human rights committees and a democratic judicial system.
Although, the fear of mortality has not reduced the number of crimes in anyways. People still commit crimes. But the slow legal system and loopholes are to be blamed for that. And the matter of our security or crimes being more does not depend on the punishment. People become criminals because of their situation, as the saying goes “Villains are not born, they are made.” It can be any reason like unemployment, recession, societal pressure. In some cases, mental illness as well.
Hanging someone or giving a death sentence is absolutely essential. It does induce an amount of fear amongst people. The way it is carried out today does not fear people because they don’t see it. Before democracy, people were hanged right in the city center so that all the people could see it. And think 100 times before doing any dubious activities. If a husband is committing domestic violence and he is given a death sentence in front of all the people, it will leave and impact and might reduce such cases.
Capital punishment might not fully reduce violence, but a change of approach in doing it may definitely bring about a change.
